2008 Seam Barbera

This is a light to medium bodied wine with an interesting balance between crisp and spicy and jammy fruit. No one can accuse this wine of being over-ripe, though it does show an inner core of sweet jammy dark fruits. The majority of fruits range to bright red cherry, rhubarb, and raspberry, with a crispness and dominant spice component. I love drinking this wine as a counterpoint to the big oaked wines found throughout California, though this is definitely a wine that finds its apex at the dinner table. There is no new oak on this wine but it was in neutral barrel for 26 months, which adds complexity and old world characteristics like leather and hen of the wood mushrooms.
